We recommend traveling by public transportation, which is both convenient and more environmentally friendly.

Getting There by Public Transportation

Thanks to the Swiss Runners Ticket, all participants can ride public transportation for free in second class from their place of residence to the event venue (Zermatt) and back again after the race.

On race day (Saturday), transportation on the following routes is included with your race number:

  • Brig – St. Niklaus – Zermatt (MGBahn)
  • St. Niklaus – Grächen (PostBus)
  • Zermatt – Gornergrat (GGB)
  • Zermatt – Sunnegga (Zermatt Bergbahnen)

On race day (Saturday), your confirmation of participation—along with a valid ID—entitles you to a free ride on the Brig/Visp–Zermatt route to pick up your race packet*. All trips outside of race day (Saturday) that do not involve travel to or from the event using the Swiss Runners Ticket and that are taken on the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway or the Gornergrat Railway must be paid for separately.


*Note: Free use of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn is now available to runners exclusively on race day (Saturday, July 4). On this day, either the race number or the confirmation of participation serves as a valid ticket for the trip. The previous rule, under which the confirmation of participation allowed free travel on the Brig/Visp–Zermatt route between Thursday and Saturday to pick up the race number, no longer applies. For travel to the event, this means that the race number can either be picked up using the Swiss Runners Ticket as part of your travel arrangements or obtained directly on race day.

Traveling by Car

The road is accessible as far as Täsch ( 4.8 km before Zermatt). There are parking garages and public parking lots available in Täsch. Beyond Täsch, it is no longer possible to continue by car.

From there, shuttle trains run every 20 minutes, as do minibus taxis to Zermatt.

For travelers arriving by train to Zermatt, covered parking spaces are available for a fee at the new Visp train station.
