Many runners dare not brave a mountain marathon: 42,195 km of distance and 1944 m of total slop up act as a deterrent.
After all, who has dreams of arriving at Riffelberg, surrounded by 29 peaks above 4000 m with an unforgettable open outlook to the majestic Mount Cervin (Matterhorn)? The "Zermatt Marathon" relay-race makes it possible. Each runner of the team achieves 21,097 km; from St. Niklaus to Zermatt (acclivity: 608 m) for the first relay runner, and from Zermatt to Riffelberg (acclivity: 1336 m) for the second relay runner.
While the second runner is fighting against the slopes, the first gets free (number imperatively as control mark) into the train of the „Gornergrat Bahn“ Railway as far as the arrival area where he makes use of the "Zermatt Marathon" equipment (hot shower room, massage, supplies).
